Protection & Sanctuary | Welsh Protective Rites

Protection in Welsh tradition was not always about keeping danger at a distance. It could also be found in the tending of hearth and threshold, in prayer and blessing, in protective objects and charms, and in the places people understood as shelter.

This collection brings together personalised rites concerned with protection, sanctuary, boundaries, cleansing and unbinding.

Some are intended for tending the home or another place of refuge. Others focus upon personal boundaries, separating yourself from something unwanted, or restoring a sense of steadiness after a difficult or unsettling period.

The rites I prepare draw upon Welsh folklore, story and recorded folk practice where appropriate, while remaining clear about the difference between surviving tradition and the contemporary ritual work I offer today.

Protection here is not a promise that nothing difficult will reach you, nor does it require living in expectation of harm.

Sometimes it means strengthening a boundary. Sometimes it means creating somewhere to rest. Sometimes it means recognising what no longer belongs within the space you call your own.

Sanctuary is not the absence of the world. It is knowing where your ground begins.
