I will then contact you by email to ask what situation you want the rite to attend to.

You do not need to arrive knowing exactly what is wrong.

You can simply tell me what you have noticed, what has changed, and what you want to approach more carefully.

Once I have the information needed to begin, I will prepare your rite within the stated processing period. Your photographs and written materials will then be delivered digitally.

Sometimes it is a repeated hesitation.

A detail that does not fit.

A conversation that changes tone.

A pressure that keeps travelling through the same part of a situation.

A practical problem that has not yet become a crisis, but is no longer nothing.

The Knock in the Dark is a personalised Welsh rite for noticing those early signs without allowing vigilance to become fear.

Its purpose is not to reveal secret enemies or guarantee supernatural foresight.

It is to help you attend more carefully to what is already shifting, distinguish a warning from ordinary noise, and decide what deserves action before you are pulled further into a difficult situation.

This work may suit you when:

• something in a situation feels increasingly unsettled, but you cannot yet name the problem;
• you are entering unfamiliar circumstances and want to move with greater caution;
• you keep noticing small inconsistencies or pressure points;
• you are dealing with complicated group, workplace, family, or social dynamics;
• you want to recognise trouble earlier rather than only responding once it has escalated;
• you tend either to dismiss your first concerns or become overwhelmed by them;
• you want spiritual support for remaining attentive without becoming permanently suspicious.

This rite is less concerned with uncovering what another person is secretly thinking than with recognising where the ground itself may be becoming unstable.

The Coblynnau and warning underground

Welsh mining folklore includes the Coblynnau, beings associated with the underground world of the mines.

Accounts collected and retold by Amgueddfa Cymru describe them as small, miner-like creatures connected with the Tylwyth Teg. They were said to work underground, help miners locate new seams of coal or metal, and warn them of danger. 

That last element is where this rite begins.

A mine is a place where very little of the surrounding structure can be seen at once. Safety depends upon attention to signs: sound, movement, pressure, condition, and change.

Within this contemporary working, I do not treat the Coblynnau as infallible supernatural alarm systems or claim that Welsh miners historically performed a ritual like this one.

Instead, their folklore provides the ground for a question that still has meaning:

What changes when we learn to notice strain before something gives way?

The Working

Every Knock in the Dark rite is prepared around one situation.

The working moves through three stages.

The First Knock — identifying what has actually changed or repeatedly caught your attention.

Testing the Ground — distinguishing observation, instinct, interpretation and fear, so that one uneasy feeling does not automatically become a verdict.

Choosing the Safe Step — deciding what deserves action, what deserves watching, and what does not yet require a response.

The rite may work with images of enclosed ground, lines of pressure, sound, stone, and passage, depending upon the circumstances you bring.

The materials themselves are not fixed.

What matters is the movement of the working: noticing, testing, and responding before entanglement becomes crisis.

Standard — The Knock in the Dark

The Standard Rite is best suited when you have one reasonably defined situation and want focused spiritual work around early warning, situational awareness, and careful response.

It includes:

• personal consultation by email;
• a complete personalised rite shaped around the situation you describe;
• ritual work centred upon noticing, testing and choosing;
• acknowledgement of the Coblynnau and the Welsh mining folklore informing the rite;
• photographs of the completed working;
• a written account of the rite and its symbolism;
• a personalised reflection on what appears most important to keep watching;
• a practical-spiritual follow-on practice for checking the ground without repeatedly re-opening the whole question.

Deluxe — The Deeper Seam

The Deluxe Rite is intended for situations where several pressures are interacting or where it has become difficult to tell what the real problem is.

It may suit you when a workplace, family, community, relationship, project, or other shared environment contains multiple people, competing interests, old tensions, or changing responsibilities.

It includes everything in Standard, plus:

• an extended personal consultation;
• a separate preliminary clearing rite;
• expanded personalised ritual work;
• a more detailed written account;
• The Deeper Seam, a personalised Companion Guide mapping the main pressures, connections and uncertainties within the situation;
• reflection on where tension appears to originate, where it travels, and where you may be unnecessarily absorbing it;
• a tailored practice for recognising escalation without living in constant anticipation of it;
• one follow-up exchange after you have had time to observe what develops.

Choose Deluxe when the central question is no longer simply Is something wrong?, but Where is the pressure actually coming from, and how do I move without becoming caught inside it?

Awareness without surveillance

Protection can become exhausting when it turns into constant scanning.

That is not the aim of this rite.

The catalogue already contains workings for stronger forms of protection, boundaries, unbinding, and the interpretation of intuitive material. The Knock in the Dark occupies a narrower place.

Eye of Dôn asks whether what you perceived and what you inferred have become confused. 
The White Hound concerns mixed messages, instinct and possible hidden motives.
The Unbinding Rite belongs after something has already become an unwanted entanglement and works through removal, protection and restoration. 

The Knock in the Dark belongs to an earlier moment: when something has begun to change, but the shape and seriousness of it are not yet clear. Its purpose is to help you remain attentive enough to notice what deserves action without asking every uncertainty to become a warning.

Before You Order

The Knock in the Dark is a personalised digital spiritual service for adults aged 18 and over. No physical item will be shipped.

Please allow 1–3 weeks once I have the information needed to begin.

Your photographs and written materials will be delivered digitally.

This rite cannot identify hidden enemies, verify that another person intends harm, predict accidents, or guarantee protection from danger. If a situation involves credible threats, unsafe working conditions, stalking, abuse, crime, or another practical danger, appropriate safety measures and professional support should take priority.

The rite is intended to support attention, judgement and spiritual reflection rather than permanent vigilance.
