I will then contact you personally by email to learn what has drawn you towards Lludd Llaw Ereint, what you are presently carrying, and what you want this initiation to mark.

You may already feel a devotional or spiritual connection with Lludd. You may instead have come because responsibility has become heavy, because something you protect or tend requires steadiness, or because you want to develop a form of strength that does not depend upon remaining constantly braced for difficulty.

I will prepare the initiation individually around that threshold. Your completed photographs, written account and personal materials will follow digitally within the stated preparation period.

The strength that remains at its post

There are forms of strength concerned with overcoming an obstacle.

There are others concerned with remaining.

A household still needs tending during a difficult season. Someone may depend upon your judgement when you are tired. A role you deliberately accepted may continue asking something of you after the first certainty has passed. Leadership, care, spiritual responsibility or the protection of something important can become less a dramatic act than a long practice of remaining present.

The Silver Hand of Lludd is an initiation into relationship with Lludd Llaw Ereint through that territory.

Its centre is guardianship: the ability to hold responsibility without allowing responsibility to consume everything else, to restore order when circumstances become disturbed, and to remain capable of action without living permanently in a state of alarm.

This is not an initiation into hardness, but one into steadiness.

This initiation may suit you if

You may be drawn to this work because Lludd himself has become important within your spiritual practice and you want to begin, renew or deepen that relationship deliberately.

For others, the life circumstances come first.

You may be carrying a protective or leadership role and want greater steadiness within it. You may be recovering from a period in which too many things demanded attention at once and want to restore some sense of order without pretending that every burden can simply be put down.

Perhaps you have become very good at holding things together for other people but less certain about where guardianship ends and depletion begins.

You may be responsible for a household, family, community, project, creative practice or spiritual space that matters enough to protect and tend.

Or perhaps what you need is quieter: the sense that difficulty can arrive without immediately dislodging you from yourself.

This initiation does not require you to become invulnerable.

A guardian who never rests eventually stops guarding well.

Lludd Llaw Ereint and the troubled island

Lludd Llaw Ereint appears most notably in the Welsh tale Lludd and Llefelys as king of the Island of Britain.

His kingdom is afflicted by three plagues, each very different from the others. Lludd does not solve them through a single overwhelming act of force. He seeks the counsel of his brother Llefelys, listens to what must be done, and deals with each disturbance according to its nature.

That aspect of the story is central to this initiation.

The value is not simply that Lludd defeats threats. He recognises that different disturbances require different responses.

One problem must be identified. Another contained. Another patiently anticipated before it can be stopped.

For me, that makes Lludd particularly meaningful when protection has become more complicated than merely keeping something out.

Guardianship also asks: What exactly am I protecting? What is actually threatening it?What response belongs to this problem rather than the last one? What must be restored after the disturbance passes?

And how much of myself can I spend before the act of protecting begins to damage what I was trying to preserve?

His epithet, Llaw Ereint — Silver Hand — gives the initiation its name. I do not need to turn that epithet into an elaborate system of magical correspondences. The image itself is enough: a hand associated with a king whose story concerns responsibility for a troubled realm.

The Working

Before preparing the initiation, I begin with what Lludd means to you and what sort of guardianship you are presently being asked to practise.

That may involve protection, leadership, responsibility, recovery after disruption, or the need to become steadier while circumstances remain unsettled.

The initiation is then shaped as a deliberate beginning or deepening of relationship with Lludd.

He is honoured and invited into the working with respect. Your name and intention are placed within the rite, alongside symbolism chosen from his surviving story and from the particular circumstances you bring.

The work may explore protection, containment, restoration and responsibility, but I do not use one fixed ritual formula for every person.

The purpose is not to leave you spiritually armoured against the world.

It is to establish a threshold from which your relationship with Lludd, and with the idea of guardianship itself, can continue to develop.

Standard — The Silver Hand of Lludd

The Standard Initiation is a complete personalised threshold rite for someone wishing to begin or deepen a deliberate relationship with Lludd.

It includes:

• personal consultation by email before preparation begins;
• a personalised initiation shaped around your relationship with Lludd and the circumstances you bring;
• an offering made in his honour;
• a principal working centred upon guardianship, order and steadfast strength;
• a photographic record of the completed initiation;
• a written account of the rite and the symbolism used;
• a Companion Guide exploring Lludd Llaw Ereint, Lludd and Llefelys, guardianship and responsibility;
• a personalised continuing practice for your first period of walking with Lludd;
• a Welsh-and-English closing prayer or reflection prepared for your initiation.

Standard is best suited when the threshold itself is clear: you want to establish the relationship and begin tending it thoughtfully.

The Deluxe Initiation is for someone who wants greater space around both the devotional relationship and the responsibilities that have brought them towards Lludd.

It includes everything in Standard, plus:

• a separate preparatory cleansing and settling rite;
• expanded personalisation around the pressures, responsibilities or protective role you are carrying;
• a more detailed written account of the completed initiation;
• an expanded Companion Guide exploring the three plagues, Llefelys's counsel, restoration after disturbance, protection and sustainable guardianship;
• a personalised Welsh-and-English devotional prayer to Lludd for continued use;
• a tailored practice for distinguishing what requires protection, what requires restoration, and what does not belong to you to hold;
• reflective and journal work for developing the relationship over the following weeks;
• one follow-up exchange after you have had time to begin that practice.

Choose Deluxe when you want more than the threshold itself: when the questions surrounding protection, responsibility or leadership are also part of what you want to explore with Lludd.

Guardianship is not the same as carrying everything

People who protect well can become accustomed to noticing what needs doing before anybody else does.

That can be useful but it can also become dangerous when every loose thread begins to feel like yours to tie.

Lludd's story does not show a king personally wrestling every problem into submission. He listens. He accepts counsel. He distinguishes one plague from another. He prepares different answers.

That offers a form of sovereignty I find considerably more useful than the idea of simply becoming harder to disturb.

You do not need to respond to every pressure in the same way, you do not need to prove strength by refusing help, and you do not protect something more faithfully by exhausting yourself in its service.

Sometimes guardianship means standing firm.

Sometimes it means restoring what has already been damaged.

Sometimes it means knowing that somebody else has the knowledge you need.

And sometimes the strongest act available is recognising that the thing before you was never yours to guard.

You do not need an existing devotional relationship with Lludd before ordering. An initiation marks a beginning or deepening of relationship; it does not bind you permanently to him or require lifelong devotional practice.

This rite may accompany periods of responsibility, leadership or strain, but it does not replace practical safety measures, professional support, medical care or other help where those are needed.

There is no requirement that strength look like silence, stoicism or endless endurance.

The aim is to know what you are keeping, why you are keeping it, and how to remain present while you do.
