A home has more than walls.

It has doors that open and close, windows through which the outside world enters, rooms in which lives unfold, and that less tangible sense of where your space begins.

For some people, protecting that boundary is practical and ordinary. For others, the home is also spiritually significant: a place whose atmosphere can feel settled or disturbed, welcoming or uneasy, distinctly one's own or somehow intruded upon.

Watchers at the Threshold is a personalised Welsh-inspired home protection rite centred upon the Cŵn Annwn, the otherworldly hounds found in Welsh tradition and particularly associated in later folklore with pursuit across the night landscape.

It is intended for those who want to establish, renew, or strengthen the spiritual boundaries of their home.

The Home as a Boundary

Protection does not always need to begin with the belief that something is wrong.

A home can be blessed and guarded simply because it matters.

You may have recently moved and want to establish the new space as your own. You may be emerging from a difficult period and want to renew the spiritual atmosphere of the household. Perhaps you practise spirit work and prefer clearly maintained boundaries between that practice and ordinary domestic life.

Or perhaps something genuinely feels unwelcome.

Some people describe unexplained disturbances, persistent unease, unwanted spiritual presence, or a sense that the atmosphere of a particular home has changed. If that is how you understand what is happening, I will not require you to explain that experience away before asking for spiritual protection.

The rite can be prepared around the protection you are actually seeking.

The Cŵn Annwn

The Cŵn Annwn — Hounds of Annwn — have a long and changing presence within Welsh tradition.

In the First Branch of the Mabinogi, Pwyll encounters the otherworldly hunting hounds of Arawn, king of Annwn. They are strikingly described: gleaming white, with red ears.

Later Welsh folklore develops the supernatural hunt in different directions. Otherworldly hounds are heard travelling through the night, and traditions surrounding them become entangled with ideas about Annwn, death, spirits and the Wild Hunt.

I would not reduce the Cŵn Annwn to something as simple as ancient Welsh “guard dogs.”

That isn't what the surviving material tells us.

Their place in Watchers at the Threshold is a contemporary development from their older associations with Annwn, otherworldly passage, pursuit and the boundary between familiar human space and what lies beyond it.

Here, they are honoured and invited as watchers at that boundary.

The Standard Rite is a complete home-protection working. It suits someone wanting protection established or renewed without needing an extensive ongoing practice.

The Deluxe Rite is better suited to someone who wants to become more actively involved in maintaining the spiritual boundaries of their home, or whose circumstances need greater individual attention.

That may include a history of recurring spiritual disturbance, active spirit work within the home, a complicated move into a new property, or simply the desire for a more developed household protection practice.

Neither option requires you to believe that your home is under attack.

Protection can be preventative.

Watchers at the Threshold is a contemporary spiritual rite informed by Welsh traditions surrounding the Cŵn Annwn and Annwn. It is not presented as a surviving historical Welsh household-protection ritual.

If you believe you are experiencing spiritual activity, I am happy to approach your concerns within that spiritual understanding. The rite does not, however, guarantee that a particular phenomenon has a supernatural cause or replace practical investigation where there may be physical, environmental, security, or safety concerns.

The rite concerns spiritual protection and is not a substitute for locks, alarms, repairs, emergency services, or other practical measures where these are needed.
