Power is not always something exercised over another person. Often, the more difficult work is learning how to inhabit our own.
This collection brings together Welsh-inspired rites concerned with confidence, self-possession, boundaries, personal authority, courage, and the ways we choose to stand within our own lives.
Welsh stories contain many figures whose power is neither simple nor absolute. Authority may be claimed, challenged, lost, negotiated, endured, or discovered through difficult choices. These stories do not offer a single model of what it means to be powerful, but they can give us thoughtful ways of considering our own relationship with agency and responsibility.
The rites gathered here draw upon those stories, alongside Welsh landscape, folklore, and my contemporary spiritual practice. They are not intended to give control over other people or guarantee influence, status, or success. Instead, they create space to consider where your own authority has become uncertain, where you may have learned to make yourself smaller, and what it might mean to act with greater deliberation.
Sovereignty begins close to home: with the choices we make, the boundaries we tend, and the ground upon which we are willing to stand.
