The Unbinding Rite

A Welsh Rite of Removal, Protection & Restoration

There are times when something begins to feel difficult to put down.

Perhaps a conflict continues to follow you long after the conversation has ended. Perhaps another person's attention, resentment or behaviour has left you feeling unsettled. Sometimes there is no clear explanation at all, only a persistent sense that something unwanted has become entangled with the way you are moving through the world.

For some people, that experience may be understood as a curse, hex or other form of harmful spiritual influence.

I do not need to decide that explanation for you in order to take the experience seriously.

The Unbinding Rite is a personalised Welsh-inspired working for deliberately separating yourself from what feels unwanted, intrusive or no longer yours to carry.

The work does not attempt to identify an attacker, prove that supernatural harm has occurred, or retaliate against another person.

Its purpose is to loosen the binding, restore the boundary, and return your attention to your own ground.

Yr hyn nad yw'n eiddo i mi, gad iddo fynd.
What is not mine, let it go.

About this rite

Belief in witchcraft and harmful supernatural influence formed part of Welsh folk culture for centuries, and people sometimes sought practical or spiritual help when they believed themselves bewitched.

There are records that the services of the dynion hysbys — literally “knowing people”, often rendered as wise or cunning people — included countering witchcraft alongside healing, astrology, fortune-telling and recovering lost property. Written charms against witchcraft were also concealed in houses, sometimes beneath hearths or within structural beams.

Some recorded counter-witchcraft practices were considerably harsher. Witch bottles might contain pins, thorns or other sharp objects and were sometimes intended not merely to protect the afflicted person but to torment the suspected witch until the spell was broken.

That is not the approach I use here.

I do not retaliate against a suspected practitioner, attempt to reveal their identity, or reproduce historical practices intended to inflict suffering upon them.

The rite I prepare is contemporary.

What I take is the recognition that people who felt themselves afflicted did not always remain passive. They used charms, prayer, protective objects and specialist help to mark a change in their circumstances and establish protection around themselves.

The Unbinding Rite carries that impulse forward without requiring certainty about what caused the experience in the first place.

What unbinding means here

An unbinding is not a declaration that somebody has successfully cursed you.

It is an act of separation.

Within the working, simple cord or thread may be used to represent the situation that has become difficult to disentangle from: an unwanted influence, persistent fear, another person's hostility, the aftermath of conflict, or the attention continually returning to the possibility that something has been done against you.

The binding represents the entanglement, not a diagnosed curse.

During the rite, it is deliberately loosened and removed.

The work then turns towards cleansing and protection before ending with restoration: attention returning to you, your space, and the ordinary life that exists beyond the problem.

The movement is therefore:

Removal → Protection → Restoration

The rite should end with less reason to keep looking backwards, not more.

This rite may suit you

The Unbinding Rite may be appropriate when you feel affected by another person's hostility or attention, when a difficult encounter continues to feel present long after it has ended, or when something simply feels persistently “wrong” and you want to mark a deliberate separation from it.

You may also come to the rite because you believe that a curse, hex or other harmful working has been directed towards you.

You do not need to change that belief before ordering.

What I will not do is confirm that supernatural attack as fact, identify a supposed perpetrator, or tell you that ordinary difficulties are evidence that somebody is magically harming you.

We can work instead with something we do know:

you no longer wish to remain bound to the experience.

Your Rite Options

I prepare each Unbinding Rite individually around what you wish to separate yourself from and how the experience has affected you.

Both options include a complete personalised working of removal, protection and restoration. Deluxe is intended for situations where uncertainty or fear surrounding the experience has itself become difficult to disentangle.

The Unbinding Rite — Standard

Best suited when you can identify the situation or influence from which you want to separate yourself and want a focused ritual working to mark that boundary clearly.

Includes:

  • Preparation of the working space
  • Personalised Unbinding Rite shaped around the circumstances you describe
  • Symbolic binding representing the unwanted entanglement rather than a presumed supernatural diagnosis
  • Deliberate loosening and removal of that binding
  • Cleansing following the unbinding
  • Closing protective working centred upon your own boundary
  • Restorative conclusion returning the focus to you rather than to the suspected source of harm
  • Photographic record of the completed working
  • Written account of the rite, materials and symbolism used
  • Companion PDF exploring Welsh counter-witchcraft and protective tradition alongside the contemporary approach used in your rite
  • Personalised aftercare practice for grounding, boundary-setting and allowing the work to come to an end

The Standard Rite is a complete working in its own right.

It is best suited when the central need is already clear: I want this separated from me.

The Unbinding Rite — Deluxe: The Loosened Thread

Best suited when the experience has become harder to isolate: perhaps you have spent a long time wondering whether you were targeted, repeatedly looking for evidence that something remains attached to you, or finding that fear and uncertainty now occupy as much space as the original event.

Deluxe includes everything in the Standard Rite, plus:

  • Personal in-depth consultation after purchase
  • Separate preliminary cleansing rite before the main working
  • Expanded personalised Unbinding Rite shaped around what emerges through the consultation
  • Symbolic unbinding, cleansing, protection and restorative work
  • Photographic record of the completed working
  • Detailed written account of the rite, materials and symbolism used
  • Expanded personalised Companion Guide exploring the particular experience of unwanted influence, entanglement and uncertainty within your circumstances
  • Deeper historical context on Welsh charms, counter-witchcraft and the dynion hysbys, clearly distinguished from my contemporary practice
  • Tailored reflective, boundary and grounding practices for the period afterwards
  • Divinatory reflection incorporated where appropriate, centred upon your own circumstances and choices

Welsh counter-witchcraft and this rite

Historical counter-witchcraft was not necessarily gentle.

There are preserved accounts of witch bottles filled with sharp objects and bodily material, concealed charms intended to protect households, and people consulting dynion hysbys when they believed bad luck or illness had been caused through witchcraft.

Other surviving evidence includes protective marks placed around doors, fireplaces and other perceived vulnerable points of buildings.

These practices tell us something important about the historical reality of belief without requiring us to imitate every response that belief produced.

People tried to do something when they felt threatened.

They marked boundaries. They sought assistance. They carried or concealed charms. They attempted to make the unwanted influence stop.

The Unbinding Rite belongs to my contemporary practice, not to a claim that one particular Welsh curse-removal ceremony has survived intact.

Its ethics are also deliberately different.

Nothing is sent back.

No unknown person is named.

No pain is inflicted symbolically upon a presumed attacker.

The work moves in one direction: away from entanglement and back towards your own ground.

After the unbinding

There is a point at which protection can stop protecting and begin keeping our attention fixed upon the thing we fear.

I do not want this rite to create that cycle.

You will be given simple practices for the period afterwards, but they are not intended to become constant spiritual surveillance.

You do not need to inspect every difficult day for evidence that something has returned.

You do not need to repeatedly cleanse yourself because you had an uncomfortable dream.

You do not need to remain spiritually armed against an unseen opponent.

The rite has an ending.

That matters.

Whatever brought you here may have deserved attention.

It does not deserve indefinite ownership of it.

Before You Order

This is a personalised digital spiritual service. No physical item will be shipped.

The Unbinding Rite is offered to adults aged 18 and over for spiritual practice, reflection and personal development.

I cannot verify whether you have been cursed, hexed or subjected to supernatural attack, and this service should not be used as proof that such an event has occurred.

The rite does not guarantee protection from physical harm, abuse, crime, illness or other dangers. Where another person is threatening, stalking, harassing or otherwise harming you, practical safety measures and appropriate professional or legal support should take priority.

Likewise, persistent anxiety, fear, sleep disturbance or other distress deserves appropriate care rather than being assumed to have a supernatural cause.

Because each rite is individually prepared, completed ritual work cannot be refunded once preparation and performance have taken place.

Please provide a working email address with your order. I will use it for any necessary communication and delivery of your completed material.

Unbinding does not require us to know every reason a knot formed.

Sometimes it is enough to recognise that it has tightened for long enough.

The thread can loosen.

The boundary can be redrawn.

And attention can return to the life waiting beyond it.

Yr hyn nad yw'n eiddo i mi, gad iddo fynd.
What is not mine, let it go.

May what is yours remain with you, what is not yours pass from your keeping, and the space between them become clear again.

Gyda rhyddhad a thawelwch,
With release and calm,

Elowen
