I will then contact you by email to ask what you are trying to reach, what currently seems to stand between you and it, and what you already know about the situation.

You may have a very practical goal in mind: an opportunity, conversation, application, move, project, relationship development, course of study, creative undertaking, or another next stage that cannot simply begin because something else has to happen first.

You do not need to know what the missing piece is before ordering. Part of the work is recognising where the real threshold lies.

Once I have the information needed to begin, I will prepare the rite within the stated processing period. Your photographs and written materials will then be delivered digitally.

The door before the road

Sometimes we know where we want to go.

The difficulty is that we cannot yet get there.

It is easy, in those situations, to keep pushing against the final outcome: wanting the new job before the application is ready, the conversation resolved before it has happened, the project underway before the resources exist, or the next chapter begun while one necessary condition remains unfinished.

The Turning of the Key is a personalised Welsh rite for those moments.

Its purpose is not to force open something that is genuinely unavailable, nor to promise that every closed door should open.

Instead, the rite turns attention towards the threshold immediately in front of you.

What actually needs to happen first?
What is missing?
What belongs to you to do, ask, prepare, learn, obtain, discuss or wait for?
And what changes once that becomes clearer?

This work may suit you if:

• you know broadly what you want, but cannot yet reach it;
• progress depends upon one earlier conversation, decision or piece of information;
• you are waiting for permission, cooperation, access or another condition before something can move;
• a qualification, application, resource or practical preparation needs attention first;
• you keep concentrating on the final outcome and suspect an earlier step is being overlooked;
• you are unsure whether a door is actually closed or whether you simply have not found what opens it;
• you want spiritual work around access and preparation without treating every obstacle as something to be magically overcome.

The rite can also be useful when the answer is that the door should not be forced.

Recognising a genuine limit is also a form of clarity.

Thresholds and passage

Welsh folklore repeatedly gives attention to places where one condition meets another.

Crossroads, stiles and other points of passage appear in later folkloric accounts as places around which uncertainty, encounter and the unseen could gather. One nineteenth-century account, for example, records a belief concerning spirits at crossroads, stiles and tree stumps on particular nights of the year. 

This rite does not claim that historical Welsh practitioners performed a surviving “key ritual” of the kind offered here.

The key is a contemporary ritual image.

What it represents is simple: access depends upon relationship between the thing that is closed and what can genuinely open it.

A key that does not fit cannot be forced into usefulness.

A door may also be locked for a reason.

The work therefore begins with attention rather than assumption.

The Working

Every Turning of the Key rite is prepared around one desired opening or next stage.

The working moves through three parts.

The Closed Door
We begin with what you are trying to reach and the point at which progress currently stops.

This is not automatically treated as spiritual blockage. The obstacle may be practical, relational, emotional, procedural, financial, temporal, or simply unclear.

The Missing Key
The working then turns towards what must come first.

Depending upon your circumstances, that might be information, preparation, consent, a conversation, a boundary, an application, learning, resources, another person’s cooperation, or a change in timing.

Sometimes there is more than one key.

Sometimes what first looked like a locked door turns out to be the wrong door entirely.

The Turning
The final part centres upon what belongs to you once the prerequisite has been recognised.

The rite does not guarantee that another person will agree, an institution will grant access, money will appear, or an opportunity will become available.

It marks the point at which the next necessary action becomes yours to take.

The materials used depend upon the individual working and are kept deliberately simple.

• a more detailed written account;

Not every door opens from the same side

Some things require effort. Others require permission while some require preparation. Some require waiting and occasionally the most useful discovery is that the thing being pushed against was never the next door at all.

The Turning of the Key does not promise a breakthrough for its own sake.

It offers somewhere to look more closely at the threshold immediately before you, so that effort can be directed towards what actually makes access possible.
