What happens after you order

You will receive Your Rite Begins Here immediately after purchase, a short digital welcome guide explaining what happens next and how your personalised work is prepared.

I will then contact you personally by email to ask what your nights have been like, what makes it difficult to settle, and what kind of rest you are hoping to create more room for.

You do not need to describe yourself as anxious, traumatised, or unwell. You may simply be tired of going to bed still carrying the day, waking repeatedly, feeling too alert to settle, or wanting a stronger sense of peace and protection around the hours in which you sleep.

Once I have the information needed to begin, I will prepare the rite within the stated processing period. Your completed photographs and written materials will then be delivered digitally.

When rest requires less vigilance

There are forms of tiredness that sleep alone does not quite answer.

You may go to bed physically exhausted and still feel as though some part of you remains standing at the door.

Listening, checking, replaying, waiting...

The Sleep of Brân is a personalised Welsh rite for that territory.

It is not dream interpretation, and it is not a working for prophecy or psychic sleep. Its purpose is simpler: to create ritual space around the idea that rest becomes easier when we do not feel responsible for keeping watch over everything ourselves.

The question at its centre is:

What would it mean to let the night be held without remaining on guard through all of it?

This work may suit you if:

  • you find it difficult to settle after demanding or emotionally crowded days;
  • you often go to bed still feeling watchful, alert, or unable to fully withdraw from what has happened;
  • you wake feeling as though you never quite stopped carrying responsibility;
  • you want spiritual protection around sleep without a harsh or defensive atmosphere;
  • you are looking for a quieter alternative to more forceful warding work;
  • you want rest to feel protected rather than exposed;
  • you simply want to mark your nights as a time in which vigilance can be set down.

This is not a rite for becoming oblivious to genuine danger.

It is a rite for recognising that constant watchfulness is not the same thing as protection.

Brân and the one who keeps watch

Bendigeidfran, Brân the Blessed, appears in the Second Branch of the Mabinogi as king, brother, protector and giant.

When Branwen is mistreated in Ireland, he crosses the sea with his host. During that journey he becomes a bridge for his people, and later he physically shields Branwen in the violence that follows. After his death, the tale says that his head is buried at the White Mount, where Britain remains protected from invasion from across the sea.

Those episodes already underpin The Iron Watch of Brân, where his story is used to explore responsibility, boundaries, protection and what deserves to be defended.

The Sleep of Brân takes a narrower path.

Here, the emphasis falls upon the image of protection continuing while someone else is no longer required to stand guard.

Not invulnerability, and not the promise that nothing can happen.

Simply the possibility that watchfulness can be shared, symbolically set down, or allowed to rest for a while.

The Working

Each Sleep of Brân rite is prepared around the particular quality of rest you are trying to reclaim.

The working moves through three stages:

Setting Down — identifying what is still being carried into the night: responsibility, unfinished thought, vigilance, pressure, or the sense that something must still be watched.

Keeping Watch — Brân is honoured through the protective imagery of his surviving story, not as a guarantee against harm, but as the central presence around which the rite’s watchful quality is shaped.

Resting Within the Boundary — the rite closes by turning attention away from what might happen and back towards the simple act of allowing the night to contain rest.

The materials used depend upon the individual working. They are chosen because they are needed, not to create a decorative altar.

The purpose is not to make sleep happen on command. It is to mark a boundary between the hours in which you carry responsibility and the hours in which you are permitted to put some of it down.

Standard — The Sleep of Brân

The Standard Rite is best suited when the need is clear: you want a personalised working around night peace, protected rest, or difficulty letting go of watchfulness before sleep.

It includes:

  • personal consultation by email;
  • a complete personalised Brân-centred rite;
  • ritual work shaped around setting down, keeping watch and protected rest;
  • photographs of the completed working;
  • a written account of the rite and its symbolism;
  • a personalised night practice for use when the day feels difficult to leave outside the bedroom.

Deluxe — The Long Watch Ends

The Deluxe Rite is intended for situations where watchfulness has become part of a larger pattern.

It may suit you if you regularly carry responsibility into the night, find yourself unable to stop mentally tending other people or unfinished situations, or want more space to explore why rest feels difficult to permit.

It includes everything in Standard, plus:

  • an extended personal consultation;
  • a separate preliminary settling rite;
  • expanded personalised ritual work;
  • a more detailed written account;
  • a personalised Companion Guide exploring Brân, protection, vigilance and the difference between keeping watch and remaining permanently on duty;
  • reflection on what still feels necessary to carry after the day has ended;
  • a longer-term evening practice shaped around your own circumstances;
  • one follow-up exchange after you have had time to work with the material.

Choose Deluxe when the question is not simply How do I rest tonight? but Why do I feel as though I must remain watchful even when nothing more can reasonably be done?

Protection that allows rest

Protection is often imagined as increased vigilance.

More attention. Stronger walls. Another check of the door. Another thought about what might happen.

But protection that never permits rest eventually becomes another demand.

Brân’s story already gives the wider catalogue a language of standing, shielding and chosen responsibility.

This rite turns that image slightly.

There are times to stand watch but there are also times when the work of protection is allowing yourself to stop.

Not because everything is guaranteed to be safe, but because no one can remain awake forever.

Boed i’r nos gadw’r hyn nad oes rhaid i ti ei gario.

May the night keep what you do not have to carry.

May what can wait remain outside the hours of rest, what must be held be held gently, and what is yours to set down be given somewhere to lie until morning.
