What happens after you order

You will receive Your Rite Begins Here immediately after purchase, a short digital welcome guide explaining what happens next and how your personalised work is prepared. I will then contact you personally by email to learn what you are bringing to the rite and what you hope the work will support.

The Rooted Way

Unlike most of the rites I prepare, I do not choose the location beforehand.

Once I understand your intention, I go out into the landscape and look for the place where this particular working belongs. I may find it on the first walk, or I may need to return to the woodland, take another road, or wait until a different day. When the place feels right for your work, I prepare and perform the rite there.

Your completed photographs, written account and personal materials are then delivered digitally within the stated preparation period.

A place that belongs to this work

There are rites whose setting can be chosen for practical reasons. A table is cleared, a candle is lit, the necessary things are gathered, and the work begins.

The Rooted Way begins earlier.

It begins with walking.

You bring me the matter you want the rite to address. It might concern change, protection, courage, grief, creativity, belonging, a decision, a relationship, spiritual practice, or something more difficult to place into a neat category.

I then take that intention with me into the landscape.

I am not looking for the most beautiful tree, the most dramatic view, or a place that will make an impressive photograph. I am looking for somewhere that feels appropriate to the work itself: perhaps a sheltered edge of woodland, a path dividing, a clearing, a fallen tree, running water, an open piece of ground, an old stone, or somewhere I could not have predicted before setting out.

The place is not selected from a catalogue of fixed meanings.

It is encountered, and that encounter becomes part of the rite.

This rite may suit you if

The Rooted Way may appeal to you when you know you want spiritual work prepared around a particular need, but do not want every element decided before the work has even begun.

You may have an intention that feels deeply personal and want a rite whose setting belongs to that intention rather than being interchangeable with somebody else's. Perhaps you are marking a major transition and want the landscape itself to hold part of that threshold. Perhaps you are uncertain which Welsh figure, symbol or form of working best suits what you are experiencing and would rather allow the place and preparation to help shape the answer.

For someone else, the attraction may simply be the act itself.

You want someone to take your name and intention out into the world, walk with them for a while, and find somewhere that becomes yours for the duration of the work.

You do not need to know what kind of place I will find. Neither do I.

That uncertainty is part of what makes this offering different.

Landscape and Welsh practice

Welsh tradition is full of places that gather story.

Hills, stones, wells, rivers, roads, trees, caves and stretches of countryside become associated with saints, spirits, legendary figures, encounters and remembered events. Sometimes a surviving story explains the association clearly. Sometimes a name or fragment is almost all that remains. In other places, folklore accumulated because generations continued to notice the same feature of the land.

What I take seriously in The Rooted Way is something simpler: place is not always interchangeable.

A rite performed beside running water will not feel the same as one prepared beneath trees. Open ground asks something different of us than shelter. A path already carries movement through it; a boundary already asks us to notice what lies on either side.

The landscape does not need to become a coded system in which every oak means strength and every stream means release.

I would rather meet the place that is actually there.

The Working

Before I go out, I will speak with you about what has brought you to the rite.

You can be as specific or as open as you need to be. You may arrive with one clear request, or with a situation that contains several things at once. I may ask about what you want supported, what you do not want the rite to become, and whether there are Welsh figures or traditions you already feel connected with.

Then the search for place begins.

I do not promise that the first walk will provide the location. Part of the preparation period is deliberately left open so I can refuse the temptation to use somewhere merely because it is convenient.

When I find the place, the rite is shaped in response to both your intention and what the landscape actually offers.

A named Welsh figure may be honoured where that relationship genuinely belongs in the work. In another commission, no deity may be needed at all. The rite may instead be grounded primarily in place, season, weather, movement, shelter, water, stone, woodland or another quality encountered there.

I do not force the landscape to perform a meaning I decided in advance.

I listen first.

Then I prepare the work.

Standard — The Rooted Way

The Standard Rite is a complete site-specific working for one principal intention.

It includes:

• personal consultation by email before preparation begins;
• time set aside specifically to seek a location for your rite;
• a place chosen for your working rather than selected in advance;
• a personalised rite shaped around your intention and the qualities of the place found;
• appropriate offering or devotional work where relevant;
• a photographic record of the completed rite and its setting;
• a written account of the place, the working and why I chose to remain there;
• a personalised reflection or continuing practice for the period afterwards;
• a Welsh-and-English closing blessing prepared for your work.

The location is not reused as though it were a standard ritual venue assigned to this product.

What matters is that, for this rite, I arrived there because I was carrying your work.

Deluxe — The Longer Road

The Deluxe version is for intentions that need more space before the place can be sought or where the relationship between the intention and the landscape deserves deeper exploration.

It includes everything in Standard, plus:

• a longer personal consultation before the search begins;
• a separate preparatory working before I go out;
• a more extensive period of site-seeking, allowing additional walks or locations to be considered where necessary;
• expanded personalisation of the final rite;
• a more detailed photographic and written record;
• an expanded Companion Guide exploring the Welsh stories, traditions, figures or landscape themes that became relevant to your particular working;
• a personalised prayer, invocation or piece of devotional writing where appropriate;
• additional reflection and journal work for the weeks following the rite;
• one follow-up exchange after you have had time to live with what the work opened.

Choose Deluxe when your intention is layered, when several parts of life meet within the same request, or when you want the journey towards the place to become a more substantial part of the commission.

When the place is found

I cannot tell you in advance what your place will look like.

It may be beautiful. It may be very ordinary.

Sometimes the right place is not the dramatic clearing at the end of the path but the half-sheltered ground beside it. It may be somewhere I have walked before and suddenly notice differently because I am carrying your question. It may be a place I have never previously had a reason to stop.

That is precisely why I do not choose it from photographs.

The work depends upon being there.

Upon looking, upon deciding whether to continue walking, and - eventually - upon recognising when I have reached somewhere that asks me to stay.

For a short while, that place belongs to your rite.

Then I leave it as I found it.

Before You Order

The Rooted Way is a personalised digital spiritual service for adults aged 18 and over. No physical item is shipped unless explicitly stated.

Because this work includes outdoor site-seeking as well as preparation of the rite itself, please allow 2 – 4 weeks once I have the information needed to begin.

Weather, daylight, safe access and conditions in the landscape may affect when I can undertake the outdoor part of the work. I will not use an unsafe or unsuitable location simply to meet an arbitrary date.

The exact location will remain private unless there is a particular reason to identify it more broadly. Photographs are intended to show you the place and completed work without turning a quiet natural site into a destination.

Nothing harmful, persistent or inappropriate is left in the landscape as part of the rite.

You do not need to know beforehand which Welsh figure, form of symbolism or kind of landscape your work requires.

Part of this offering is allowing that question to remain open until the walking begins.
