There is a moment in Culhwch ac Olwen when Olwen is described walking so lightly that white clover springs from the ground beneath her feet.

It is a small image within a much larger tale, but a memorable one: beauty leaving something living in its wake.

Olwen’s Blossom takes its inspiration from that image. A floral black tea blended with rose, hibiscus, sunflower and mallow flowers, then scented with natural bergamot oil, it is bright, fragrant and gently floral, with the familiar citrus lift of bergamot running through the cup.

Olwen’s Blossom is a contemporary blend inspired by the flower imagery surrounding her in Welsh literature, made for slow mornings, reading, journalling, reflective practice, or simply sitting with a good cup of tea.

The Tea

Ceylon and China black teas form the base of the blend, giving it enough depth to carry the flowers without overwhelming them.

Rose and mallow bring softer floral notes, hibiscus adds a brighter edge, while sunflower flowers sit more quietly within the blend. Natural bergamot oil brings the distinctive citrus note familiar from Earl Grey.

The result is a floral black tea that is aromatic without becoming overly perfumed, with warmth from the black tea and a light brightness from the flowers and bergamot.

How to Brew

Use approximately 1 – 2 teaspoons per cup.

Pour over freshly boiled water at approximately 95 – 100°C and allow to steep for 3 – 5 minutes, depending on the strength you prefer.

Enjoy as it is, or add milk if you prefer a softer black tea.

A Quiet Practice

You do not need to make a ritual of every cup.

Sometimes preparing the tea, waiting for it to steep, and giving yourself a few undisturbed minutes is enough.

Olwen appears in the medieval Welsh tale Culhwch ac Olwen, preserved in manuscripts containing some of the stories now commonly gathered under the name The Mabinogion.
