At the Winter Gate - Personalised Welsh Nos Calan Gaeaf Rite for Release, Reflection & the Winter Road
When You Order
You will receive Your Rite Begins Here immediately after purchase, a short digital welcome guide explaining what happens next, how personalised work is prepared, and how you may begin reflecting while you wait.
I will then contact you personally by email to understand what has brought you to this threshold, what you feel ready to release, protect, accept or carry differently, and anything else you feel is important for me to know before preparing your work.
You do not need to arrive with a single clear answer or a perfectly defined intention. You may already know exactly what you wish to leave behind, or you may simply feel that something in your life has shifted and deserves to be acknowledged before winter begins.
If you have chosen the Deluxe rite, I will also invite you to reflect on what belongs to the road behind you, what feels most present at the threshold, and what you hope to tend or understand in the winter ahead.
Your personalised At the Winter Gate: A Companion for Nos Calan Gaeaf will be prepared as part of your completed work rather than supplied immediately.
All castings will take place on Nos Calan Gaeaf, 31st October 2026, regardless of when your place is reserved. Your personalised written materials will follow digitally after the casting.
At the Winter Gate - Personalised Welsh Nos Calan Gaeaf Rite for Release, Reflection & the Winter Road
There are nights in the year that feel less like endings than crossings.
Nos Calan Gaeaf, the night before Calan Gaeaf, has long held that character in Welsh tradition: a threshold between the old season and the beginning of winter, associated with fire, divination, spirits, uncertainty and the road home after dark.
At the Winter Gate is a personalised seasonal rite prepared for that threshold.
Every casting will take place on the evening of the 31st of October 2026, regardless of when your place is reserved. The rite will remain available only during October and will leave the shop when November begins.
This is not a general rite for “new beginnings”, nor is it intended to force a clean break where life is more complicated than that. It is for the quieter work of deciding what you do not wish to carry further, what deserves protection, and how you want to meet the darker months ahead.
You may come to the rite with something you are ready to release, a chapter you are trying to close, a situation you are learning to accept, a boundary you need to strengthen, or simply the sense that the year has brought you to a threshold you have not yet fully acknowledged.
The work is prepared around you.
The Rite
Before Nos Calan Gaeaf, you will be invited to share your name and a little about what has brought you to the threshold.
You do not need to have the perfect words.
Some people arrive knowing exactly what they want to leave behind. Others know only that something has shifted and that they do not wish to step into winter carrying it in quite the same way.
Your rite will be shaped around that individual request.
The work centres upon three questions:
What has reached its ending?
What should not be carried across unchanged?
What deserves to be tended as winter begins?
The rite itself is performed privately on Nos Calan Gaeaf. I do not provide a material list or a set of instructions for reproducing the work. What you receive afterwards is an account of the rite as it was prepared for you, together with the reflections and observations that arose from it.
This is a seasonal working, and the date matters. Your place may be reserved at any point while the listing is open, but all castings will take place on the 31st of October 2026.
Standard — The Crossing
The Standard rite is centred upon one principal threshold in your life.
This may be something you wish to release, close, protect, accept, leave behind, or carry forward differently.
Your personalised work includes:
- One personalised Nos Calan Gaeaf rite, cast on the 31st of October 2026
- One primary focus: release, closure, protection, acceptance, or carrying something forward differently
- Personalised written rite account
- Reflections on significant themes or observations arising during the working
- The digital companion guide, At the Winter Gate: A Companion for Nos Calan Gaeaf
The Standard rite is best suited to one clear matter or one central crossing.
Deluxe — The Winter Road
The Deluxe rite explores the threshold in greater depth through three movements:
Behind
What belongs to the road already travelled.
Threshold
What requires attention at the point of crossing.
Ahead
What you may need to tend, protect, understand or carry carefully through the winter months.
The Deluxe work includes everything in the Standard rite, plus:
- A three-part personalised structure: Behind / Threshold / Ahead
- A deeper written account covering each of those three movements separately
- A dedicated Winter Road reflection after the rite
- Three personalised points to carry into winter: one to release, one to tend, and one to watch
- A short closing divinatory element focused on the coming winter period
- A final personalised reflection or phrase to return to through November and the darker months
The Winter Road reflection is not a prediction of everything the coming months will bring. Instead, it gathers the themes, questions, cautions and possibilities that appear most worth carrying forward after the rite.
The Deluxe rite is best suited to more layered situations, periods of transition, or moments where what is ending and what comes next cannot easily be separated.
Your Digital Companion Guide
Both versions include a seasonal digital guide:
At the Winter Gate — A Companion for Nos Calan Gaeaf
The guide is intended to accompany your own experience of the night rather than reproduce the rite I perform for you.
It explores the atmosphere of Nos Calan Gaeaf within Welsh seasonal tradition, including the idea of the ysbrydnos, or spirit night, and the movement into winter.
Alongside this are reflections for the evening itself: what has ended, what you are reluctant to leave behind, what still needs tending, and what you wish to carry carefully into the winter months.
There is also space for your own notes before and after the rite.
The companion is designed to be useful whether you spend the evening quietly at home, take a walk before dark, light a candle, sit with a cup of tea, or simply set aside a little time to notice the changing season.
When Your Rite Will Be Cast
All rites in this seasonal offering will be cast on:
Nos Calan Gaeaf — 31st of October 2026
You may reserve your place at any time while the listing remains open.
The date of purchase does not change the date of the casting.
Because every rite is prepared individually and all work must take place within the same seasonal window, only a limited number of places will be available.
Once those places are filled, the listing will close early.
If places remain, the listing will leave the shop when November begins and will not return until the following year.
What I Will Need From You
After purchase, you will be asked to provide:
-
The name you would like used in the work
-
The situation, threshold or change you are bringing to the rite
-
What you feel ready to release, protect, accept or carry differently
-
Anything important you feel I should understand before preparing your work
You are welcome to write as much or as little as feels right.
For the Deluxe rite, you may also include anything you feel belongs specifically to the road behind you, the present threshold, or the winter ahead.
What You Will Receive
Your companion guide will be provided digitally.
Your personalised rite account will follow after the Nos Calan Gaeaf casting and will be written specifically around the work prepared for you.
No two accounts are identical because no two thresholds are identical.
The purpose of the written account is not to tell you what your future must become. It is to give you something thoughtful to return to after the night itself: a record of the work, the themes that arose, and the questions that may be worth carrying with you into winter.
Nos Calan Gaeaf is a night shaped by uncertainty as much as certainty.
A road disappears into darkness long before it ceases to exist.
Sometimes the work is not to see the whole road.
It is simply to know what you are willing to carry when you cross.
Boed y ffordd o’th flaen yn glir.
May the road before you be clear.
