Sometimes there is nothing obviously wrong with any of the roads before us.

One offers familiarity. Another asks for change. A third may carry something we want alongside something we fear. We can spend so long trying to discover which choice is right that eventually even standing still begins to feel like a decision we are making badly.

At the Crossroads is a personalised Welsh rite for times when more than one direction remains possible and you need space to consider what each might ask of you.

It does not promise to reveal the correct future, nor does it ask a deity, spirit or divinatory tool to make the decision on your behalf.

Instead, the rite creates a deliberate crossroads: a place from which the roads can be considered before you decide which one you are prepared to walk.

The crossroads in Welsh folklore

The crossroads, croesffordd in Welsh, appears repeatedly in later Welsh folklore.

Accounts associate crossroads with supernatural encounters and particular nights of the year. An account written for the Llangeitho Eisteddfod in 1895, for example, describes a belief that on Calan Gaeaf and Christmas night a spirit could be found at every crossroads, stile and tree stump.

Crossroads also appear in accounts of funerary custom and burial. Together, these traditions make the crossroads something more complicated than a modern symbol for indecision. It was a place where roads met, but also one around which ideas of passage, uncertainty and the unseen could gather.

For this rite, what interests me is something simpler.

You cannot walk every road at once.

Eventually, choosing one means allowing the others to continue without you.

At the Crossroads may suit you when you are facing a genuine choice and repeatedly circling the possibilities without becoming clearer about what you want to do.

That might involve work, study, home, a relationship, a creative direction, a major change, or another decision whose consequences matter to you.

It may be particularly useful when several options are genuinely possible. Rather than assuming that one road is secretly destined for you, the rite gives you space to consider what each direction might actually mean.

What does each choice require?
What might each choice make possible?
What would you have to relinquish?
Which consequences are you willing to accept?
Are you moving towards something, or primarily trying to escape something else?
And what happens if, for now, you choose not to move?

Sometimes the difficulty is not that we cannot identify the road we want; it is accepting what choosing it will cost.

The Working

I prepare each At the Crossroads rite individually around the decision or transition you bring to me.

The possibilities before you form the structure of the working. They do not need to divide neatly into equal directions. There may be two roads. There may be several. One of them may simply be remaining where you are.

Each genuine possibility is given room to be considered separately before the working returns to the central point: the person who must eventually choose between them.

Where it suits the question, divinatory work may form part of the rite. If used, it offers another perspective from which to consider the roads before you rather than an instruction about which one you should take.

The purpose is not to receive an answer from the crossroads.

It is to hear your own answer more clearly while standing there.

The roads not taken

We often ask what will happen if we choose a particular road.

There is another question worth asking.

What are we willing to leave behind in order to take it?

Every meaningful choice closes possibilities as well as opening them. That does not necessarily make the choice a mistake. It makes it a choice.

You may never know exactly what would have happened along the other road. Ritual cannot remove that uncertainty, and neither can divination.

What ritual can offer is a place in which uncertainty does not have to be solved before you are allowed to move.

A crossroads is not a failure to know where you are going.

Sometimes it is simply the place where going somewhere begins.

At the Crossroads is a personalised digital spiritual service for adults aged 18 and over. No physical item will be shipped.

Your ritual photographs and written materials are delivered digitally following completion.

A working email address is required. I will contact you after ordering if further information is needed before preparing your rite.

Please allow 1–3 weeks for preparation and completion.

The rites I prepare are offered for spiritual practice, reflection and personal exploration. This rite cannot predict the outcome of a decision or guarantee that a particular choice will produce the result you hope for. It should not replace appropriate medical, psychological, legal, financial or other professional advice.

Because each rite is individually prepared, completed ritual work cannot be refunded once preparation and performance have taken place.
