Some things are difficult to notice while we are actively searching for them.

An impression arrives and disappears before we have decided what to make of it. A dream leaves behind a feeling stronger than its remembered images. Something catches our attention for reasons we cannot immediately explain. At other times, we become so intent upon finding meaning that almost everything begins to look significant.

Learning to listen involves both openness and restraint.

The Whispering Veil is a personalised Welsh-inspired rite centred upon spiritual listening, intuitive awareness and discernment.

It does not promise to awaken psychic abilities or allow you to hear supernatural voices. Instead, the rite creates a deliberate period of quiet attention in which you can notice what arises without deciding in advance what it must mean.

About this rite

The Welsh word awen has a long association with poetic inspiration.

Its meanings and associations have changed considerably over time, particularly through later bardic revival and modern spiritual practice. I therefore do not treat awen as an ancient Welsh system of psychic perception, nor assume that every intuitive impression is an expression of it.

What interests me here is something more grounded.

Before something can be interpreted, it first has to be noticed.

Welsh poetry and storytelling preserve a world in which dreams, encounters, landscapes, animals, words and unexpected events can carry significance. They also remind us that interpretation is rarely as simple as receiving a perfectly formed message.

The rite I prepare is contemporary.

Rather than attempting to reproduce a historical Welsh practice of clairaudience or clairsentience for which we have no evidence, it draws upon the quieter relationship between attention, inspiration and interpretation.

The Working

I prepare each Whispering Veil rite individually around the form of listening or intuitive practice you wish to explore.

The working is deliberately quiet.

Rather than attempting to force an experience, it creates conditions for attention: settling distraction, establishing a clear focus, and allowing impressions to arise without requiring them to become messages.

Awen may inform the symbolism of the working where appropriate, particularly through its relationship with inspiration and poetic insight, but it is not treated as a supernatural frequency or guarantee of revelation.

What emerges may be meaningful.

It may also be ambiguous.

Both possibilities are allowed to remain.

Allowing those possibilities to coexist can make spiritual practice quieter.

We do not have to turn every bird at the window into an omen or every unexpected thought into guidance.

Nor must we dismiss an experience simply because we cannot prove what produced it.

There is a space between unquestioning belief and immediate dismissal.

The Whispering Veil belongs there.

It asks us to notice first.

Interpret later.

And occasionally to leave something unexplained.
