Some things are difficult to leave precisely because we once wanted them.

We chose the work. Made the promise. Pursued the ambition. Accepted the responsibility. Stayed with the relationship. Took the road because, at the time, we had reason to believe it was ours.

Then somewhere along the way, choosing became continuing.

The Endless Hunt is a personalised Welsh rite with Mallt-y-Nos for examining something you have continued to pursue, maintain or carry long after the original choice was made.

It does not assume that stopping is the answer. Sometimes, looking closely at an old choice reveals that we would still make it today. At other times, we discover that persistence has outlived the desire that once sustained it.

The work creates space to tell the difference.

This Rite May Suit You If

You have invested so much time, effort or hope in something that stopping now feels like wasting everything that came before.

An ambition you once wanted deeply has become exhausting, but you cannot quite give yourself permission to reconsider it.

A responsibility, promise or role still shapes your life even though the circumstances in which you accepted it have changed.

You find yourself continuing primarily because other people expect you to, because you have always done it, or because changing course feels like failure.

You are caught between perseverance and release and do not want either decision made for you.

Mallt-y-Nos and the Endless Hunt

Mallt-y-Nos — often rendered in English as Matilda of the Night — is a strange figure in later Welsh folklore.

She appears in association with the spectral hunt and the Cŵn Annwn, the hounds of Annwn. In one recorded account, Mallt is remembered as a woman passionately devoted to hunting who declares that if hunting cannot continue after death, she wants no part of such an existence.

The wish proves more enduring than she imagined.

She becomes part of the night hunt, travelling with Arawn and his hounds, but later tradition gives her cries a note of sorrow. What she once desired without reservation has become something from which she cannot simply walk away.

There is something uncomfortable in that story precisely because Mallt does not begin by being forced into the hunt.

She wants it.

What interests me is not the punishment attached to the tale, but the question left behind by it.

Must something remain right for us simply because we once chose it?

A choice can be sincere without needing to be permanent.

We are allowed to know more now than we knew when we made it.

The Working

I prepare each Endless Hunt rite individually around the choice, commitment, pursuit or responsibility you bring to me.

The work begins by returning to the original decision rather than immediately trying to sever it. We consider what you wanted then, what the choice gave you, and why continuing it made sense.

From there, the rite turns towards the present.

What still draws you forward? What now keeps you moving through habit, guilt, fear, pride or expectation? What would actually be lost if you stopped, and what might become possible if you did?

Mallt-y-Nos is honoured within the working as the folkloric presence around whom these questions are gathered.

The rite does not require you to abandon anything.

You may come away recognising that the road still belongs to you.

If so, continuing is no longer simply what happened because you never stopped. It becomes something you have looked at again and chosen again.

And if the answer has changed, the work makes room to acknowledge that too.

Your ritual photographs and written materials are delivered digitally following completion.

A working email address is required. I will contact you after ordering if further information is needed before preparing your rite.

Please allow 1–3 weeks for preparation and completion.

The rites I prepare are offered for spiritual practice, reflection and personal exploration. This rite does not make important personal, professional, financial or relationship decisions on your behalf, nor does it guarantee a particular outcome.

Because each rite is individually prepared, completed ritual work cannot be refunded once preparation and performance have taken place.
