The mixture must boil for a year and a day, until three drops containing extraordinary knowledge emerge. Gwion Bach is set to stir the cauldron while Morda tends the fire.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eBut the knowledge does not reach the person for whom it was intended.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe three drops fall upon Gwion's thumb. He puts it into his mouth and receives what Ceridwen had prepared for another.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eWhat follows is not peaceful enlightenment.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eGwion immediately understands the danger he is in and flees. Ceridwen pursues him through a sequence of transformations, and the story eventually carries both figures somewhere neither occupied when the cauldron was first set upon the fire.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThere is something important here for divinatory practice.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eKnowledge does not necessarily make circumstances simple.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eAn answer can change the question. What we learn may require interpretation. Sometimes what becomes visible is precisely what we would rather not have seen.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cstrong\u003eThe Three Drops\u003c\/strong\u003e takes that tension seriously.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe ritual I prepare is contemporary.
